Randolph County Court Docket Searches
For Randolph County cases, WVPASS is the portal for public circuit matters. The West Virginia Magistrate Court Record Search covers magistrate cases. WVPASS works with a case number or party criteria. It sells public circuit documents for a fee. MCR Search costs nothing. It takes a first name, last name, or case number, though it shows no document images. A city ordinance case may sit with the municipal clerk instead. It might not surface in either system.
Gather the case number, citation number, party name, filing year, and court from any notice before you search. A name alone can return a long list. A case number cuts right to the match. If the portal is down or the results seem off, call or visit the Circuit Clerk for circuit and family records. The Magistrate Clerk handles magistrate records. Confirm any mail or written request terms with that office before you send payment.
- Read the notice or citation and identify circuit, family, magistrate, or municipal court.
- Open WVPASS for a circuit case or MCR Search for a magistrate case.
- Search by exact case number when possible, then try the party name and year.
- Review the case details, dated entries, court, status, and next setting.
- Ask the record custodian for a plain or certified copy when the portal is not enough.
WVPASS Circuit Search Fields
WVPASS is the main public search layer for a Randolph County Circuit Court docket. Search options include county, case type, case number, party type, party name, birth year, filing-date range, status, and a case-details view. Anyone can browse the docket free of charge. The portal reaches public circuit documents filed from July 1, 1999. Sealed and juvenile cases are left out.
| Field | Use | Practical limit |
|---|---|---|
| County and case type | Limit the search to Randolph and a docket category | Choose the court type shown on the filing |
| Case number | Find one known case | Enter the court's format exactly |
| Party details | Search by name and party role | Common names can return several matches |
| Filing dates and status | Narrow a broad result set | A status can change after a new entry |
The West Virginia court-record access page links both statewide systems. Copies downloaded from WVPASS are research copies, not clerk-certified records.
Court Dockets: What They Show
Think of a Randolph County court docket as a dated register of activity. It can identify the case, the parties, attorneys, and the assigned judge. It also covers charges or claims, filing events, service, motions, hearings, orders, and disposition. Which fields appear depends on the court and the case type. Keep one caution in mind. An entry proves an event was recorded. Its short text may leave out facts stated in the filed document itself.
| Case Number | The court's unique identifier and best search key. |
|---|---|
| Parties | People or entities named in the public caption, subject to access limits. |
| Docket Entries | Dated filings, service events, motions, orders, and other activity. |
| Hearing Settings | The scheduled date, time, type, and available location details. |
| Court and Judge | The court level and judicial officer assigned to the matter. |
| Disposition | The recorded result, dismissal, judgment, plea, or other closing event. |
Randolph Magistrate Search Limits
MCR Search holds public magistrate civil and criminal case information. That includes many traffic citations and early criminal matters. The official instructions describe the limits plainly. The search is free, returns no more than 30 records, and shows no court documents. A CAPTCHA and an acceptance gate come first, then the live form.
A missing name does not prove that no record exists. Check the spelling. Try a case number. Make sure the case was filed in magistrate court rather than circuit or municipal court. For pleadings, judgments, payment records, or copies, contact the Randolph County Magistrate Clerk. When the public website falls short, the clerk's counter and public terminal still work.
Key point: MCR Search is a case-information index, not a complete criminal history or an online document repository.
Randolph County Courts and Dockets
The West Virginia Circuit Court of Randolph County is the general-jurisdiction trial court. It sits in the 24th Judicial Circuit. Randolph Magistrate Court takes misdemeanors, warrants, bail, and early felony stages. It also hears small claims and other matters within magistrate jurisdiction. Family Court serves Randolph and Tucker counties in the 22nd Family Court Circuit. The Circuit Clerk keeps its records. Municipal courts hold their own ordinance, parking, and local traffic cases.
The judiciary's official Randolph County court-information page gathers the named judges, clerks, and office contacts into a single court map.
That directory sorts the circuit, family, and magistrate offices before a docket search begins.
| Court | Docket Covers | Where to Search |
|---|---|---|
| Randolph Circuit Court | Felonies, general civil cases, appeals, juvenile and other circuit matters | WVPASS and Circuit Clerk |
| Randolph Magistrate Court | Misdemeanors, preliminary felony work, citations, small claims, warrants and bail | MCR Search and Magistrate Clerk |
| Family Court | Divorce and other domestic-relations matters | Circuit Clerk, with confidentiality limits |
| Municipal courts | City ordinance, parking, and local traffic matters | Municipal court or town clerk |
Randolph County Filing Volume
The West Virginia annual-report index supplies the official 2024 filing context. Randolph reported 195 circuit criminal filings. It added 360 circuit civil filings, 106 circuit juvenile filings, and 598 magistrate civil or special filings. Magistrate criminal categories in the report total 2,062. Read these as filings. They are not unique people, convictions, pending-case totals, or the workload of one judge.
Those numbers show why picking the right Randolph County docket matters. Many cases begin and end in magistrate court. Felonies, larger civil disputes, appeals, and protected subject areas follow the circuit path instead.
Court Dates and Settings in Randolph County
A setting is a scheduled court event, not always a trial. The docket may label an arraignment, status conference, motion hearing, pretrial conference, or something else. Randolph circuit terms begin on the last Monday of February, June, and October. The governing rule is Trial Court Rule 2.24. Those term dates never replace the date on an individual notice or docket entry.
Look at the newest docket event first. Then confirm the date with the clerk or court. Continuances, emergency closures, and new orders can all shift a setting. The full Randolph County court schedule explains how to compare the portal entry, written notice, and clerk confirmation.
When Randolph Results Are Missing
A blank search can have several causes. The case may belong to another court. It may not have reached the public index yet, may use a different name spelling, or may fall in a restricted category. Sealed and juvenile cases stay closed to public WVPASS users. In family matters, orders and indices can be public. Pleadings, exhibits, recordings, transcripts, and financial or child-related material remain confidential.
- Confirm the court name on the notice, citation, or filing receipt.
- Retry with the exact case number and a broader party-name spelling.
- Check the other proper system only if the case type could be magistrate or circuit.
- Call the relevant clerk and ask whether the case is public and indexed.
- For restricted material, ask which rule or order controls access and what court process applies.
Expungement can also remove covered criminal record material from public inspection. Portal silence is never a final legal conclusion.
Docket Access Under West Virginia Law
West Virginia law starts from public inspection while preserving court-ordered and statutory restrictions. The office holding the record handles the request. A general West Virginia Freedom of Information Act request cannot override a sealing order, juvenile rule, family-record restriction, or another court-specific limit.
Key Rules:
W.Va. Code § 51-4-2 provides for inspection and copying of court records, subject to lawful limits.
Trial Court Rule 10 addresses public records, prompt response, filing, and access limits imposed by order.
W.Va. Code § 29B-1-4 lists FOIA exemptions and does not displace court confidentiality rules.
Randolph Docket Versus Case File
Three layers trip people up. A search result is only a match with basic case information. Behind it sits the docket, a dated register of filings and events. Deeper still is the case file. It holds the complaints, petitions, motions, orders, exhibits, and transcripts behind each entry. Access rules differ at every layer.
- Search result
- A portal match used to locate the correct matter.
- Docket
- The chronological register of court activity.
- Certified copy
- A copy authenticated by the clerk who keeps the original record.
- Disposition
- The recorded outcome or closing event in a case.
Neither tool hands you certified paper. A WVPASS download proves nothing officially, and MCR Search offers no document images at all. When you need proof of an order or judgment, find the entry online, then order the document from the Circuit Clerk, Magistrate Clerk, or municipal custodian.
How Randolph Clerks Keep Dockets
Phil Riggleman is the Randolph County Circuit Clerk. He keeps circuit, family, civil, criminal, appeal, and related court records. Rezena Roth is the Randolph County Magistrate Clerk. Her office holds magistrate civil and criminal case files, citations, judgments, and payment records. The county clerk handles county-government, land, and election records instead. That office is not the main court-docket office. The county's Circuit Clerk office page lays out the office's docket, filing, jury, and records duties.
That office page is the local source to check before visiting or requesting an official circuit copy. Start there.

Randolph Court Copy Costs
Browsing WVPASS case details is free. Viewing or downloading public documents costs $0.25 per page. A processing fee for credit or debit payment is charged on top of that. MCR Search is free too. But magistrate documents must be requested from the clerk for a nominal fee. For circuit work, the fee statute lists $1 per page. That covers a transcript, copy, or paper made by the clerk for specified use outside the office. The county site posts no single certified-copy total. Ask the clerk for current page and certification charges before you pay.
| Item | Published amount | Source or limit |
|---|---|---|
| WVPASS docket browsing | Free | Case details only |
| WVPASS public document | $0.25 per page | Processing fee also applies |
| MCR Search | Free | No documents online |
| Specified clerk-made copy | $1 per page | See W.Va. Code § 59-1-11 |
Only the record custodian can certify a copy, so confirm payment methods and mail, fax, or in-person procedures before you order.
Randolph Dockets Went Digital
Randolph went digital in stages. Circuit and Family CourtPLUS E-File arrived on September 26, 2022. MCR Search launched statewide in January 2024, and WVPASS followed in March 2025. The CourtPLUS E-File system serves registered filing users. It does not replace public access through WVPASS or the clerk. The split still matters. E-File records how authorized users submit and receive filings. WVPASS exposes permitted circuit docket details and public documents. The clerk still handles inspection, paper copies, certification, pro se paper filings, and sealed material. Technology changed the path to the record, not the legal boundary around it.
City-by-City Court Dockets in Randolph County

Beverly's current site exposes no searchable court docket. Coalton and Womelsdorf run no current municipal court portal.
